First Post!

Welcome to my passion blog, "Going the Extra Mile!" My name is Rachel Jenkins and I'm a freshman at Penn State whose passion is track and field. For six years I have been running competitively in cross-country and track and field. My specialty in track and field is the mile. Running in college was always in the back of my mind, but, being a freshman, I really wanted to become assimilated to my new environment first. Therefore, I am a member of the Track and Field Club at Penn State and it is amazing! Since this is my first blog post, I wanted to explain exactly what I plan to do with this blog. I hope to convey the benefits of some particular workouts that I do on a weekly basis to those looking for some training ideas or for those who love running just as much as I do! The goal of my workouts is to build up endurance while strengthening my body in order to run a faster mile time. Currently, my personal record is 5:45. By the end of this year through my workouts and my competitions I would love to run a 5:40. It's hard work, but that's where going the "extra mile" comes into play. You get out of it what you put in. Practice is hard, but rewarding! I hope everyone learns some interesting workouts and facts from this blog and has fun with my workouts! If there are any suggestions or you want to add on to anything in the future, just let me know!
